Joseph de la Plante & Chris Lodder: Creating Value within the Junior Mining Space

Joseph walks us through a presentation on Osisko Gold Royalties. They are a growth royalty company created in 2014, and he outlines their financial position. Their primary focus is on mining in Canada. They focus on areas where there is a long history of production and they have had steady growth for the last five years.

They currently have twenty different producing assets and an extensive portfolio all built with a very small team. Their primary asset is Canadian Malartic, which they plan on expanding. They focus on early opportunities and invest in a hybrid of equity and royalties. Their business model is concentrated in a way that allows them to avoid competing with other large royalty companies. Their goal is for every dollar they put into a company that company can draw ten dollars from the market. Unlike most royalty companies, their NAV is primarily coming from Canadian assets.

Joseph introduces Chris Lodder, who is CEO of Barkerville Gold Mines and one of Osisko’s significant investments. Chris discusses Barkerville, which is located in central British Columbia that covers 2000 square miles of historic mineral rights. The previous owners had a lot of management issues, lawsuits, and over-estimated their resources. They ended up with an opportunity to acquire an interest when Eric Sprott obtained control. They put five million into owning twenty percent, and they have slowly warmed up to the project having afterward invested 35 million into exploration and development.

Currently, there is an underground resource of 3.7 million ounces, which is growing under the new geological model they have developed. The new model is providing them with excellent results, but exploration is drill intensive. They are working on a phased approach to growing production.
