Frank Holmes: Keynote: New Technologies will Disrupt Mining, Investing, and how to Spot Opportunities
Frank discusses the world of quant trading and why it is increasingly essential in our interconnected world. Quant trading can make accurate decisions much faster than any human. The technology has now evolved towards both inductive and deductive thinking. Quants do a lot of probability analysis with machine learning and artificial intelligence. People are now using this tech from companies like Apple and Amazon through Alexa and Siri. Frank says, “Applications for A.I. and machine learning are going to show up in the real world every day medical devices soon, and they will save lives.”
He feels the recent bear market in cryptos was just a correction and discusses his journey in exploring the blockchain world. Frank is seeing ongoing massive growth in the crypto world with billions of dollars being built out in infrastructure. There is a lot of volunteer labor available in the crypto space as it’s a passion for a lot of people.
He asks,” If the price of gold fell by 90% how many people would come out to a resource conference?” That’s how it is in the crypto space as conferences are currently selling out. Last year the G20 countries and big companies like Facebook were blocking advertising and bashing bitcoin in the media. This year both JP Morgan and Facebook are creating their own cryptocurrencies.
Hive is the first blockchain public company. They are in the crypto mining space generating new coins, and as a result, Hive has become a fundamental way for investors to get some exposure to bitcoin.
He says, “The quant world doesn’t look at fundamentals like NAV or book values they look for vision, goals, and value per share.”
