Willem Middelkoop: My Top Five Picks in the Pilbara Gold Region

Willem is on his way to Australia for a resource conference where he will be discussing an interesting gold discovery play. The Pilbara region is a large area with conglomerate-hosted gold. There are a lot of similarities to historical gold discoveries and good evidence of multiple gold-bearing structures that outcrop for 8 to 10 km. What he has seen has indicated that this is a very rich system.

He discusses the five companies they have invested within the basin, those with the largest claims. His fund has invested in Novo Resources, Artemis Resources, De Grey, Kairos Minerals and DGO Gold Ltd. They also have a stake in Impact Minerals.

Currently, the valuations for the Pilbara region are quite low due to uncertainty over the size of the resource. Eric Sprott and Kirkland Lake have invested 150 million into this play, so they are big believers. He thinks that upcoming news announcements will surprise and possibly wake up the market.

Lundin group with Euro Sun has made a play for the prized Timok copper-gold deposit in eastern Serbia, and we could see a bidding war.

He is also interested in SolGold (TSX/LSE:SOLG) which is a large copper discovery in Ecuador. That company seems to be attracting the interest of several majors. SolGold is currently drilling a second target, one of several and it’s looking like a district scale discovery.

He feels there could be one last break to the downside in gold and then the market will turn upwards in 2019 towards 2000 Dollars. Investment from larger funds is likely needed to kick off the next rally and get the general publics attention.
